In a CrossFit setting, strength training will offer the following benefits: Increased muscular endurance with lighter weights during WODs (If your back squat goes up 50lbs, movements like thrusters will feel a lot easier) Higher 1RMs on the main lifts like the squat, deadlift, press, bench press, snatch, and clean.

The simple answer is to practice more, as I had to while training for the half marathon row. If you wanted to get better at double unders, you’d need to spend dedicated time working on double unders. Well, it might, it might not. But one thing is for sure, if you want to get better at CrossFit, the final step is to never give up, push it to the limit, get ONE MORE REP. This is the factor that separates the naturally gifted athlete from the workhorse, the casual CrossFitter from the fire-breather and the Games competitor from the dreamer.

Best way to increase strength on one lift is to do it "power to the people" style from Pavel's book. Start with your 5 reps max and find 80% of that to start with. Then your second set is 90% of that.

The goal of this 4-week plan is simple: to improve your overhead pressing strength. Every week you’ll complete two sessions, each about 30-45 minutes long. Try to keep at least two days between each session; you can follow the program Monday and Thursday, for example. There are no percentages in this program.
