Most crossfitters I show a dumbbell curl turn it into a Db power clean because that's what they are used to doing. Go lighter with the weights, go slower and look for a pump. For legs do squats/deads in the 8-10 rep range at 60-75ish %. That will most definitely put size on your legs, but it will be pretty grueling.

Increased protein helps maintain the lean mass (muscle) you already have. You want to keep this, as it increases your metabolism. Adding a little more lean mass is usually a good thing. As a general starting point, I think 40% of daily food intake should be protein.

CrossFit Rosslyn, in Arlington, VA (crossfitrosslyn.com), recommends having a strategy before starting “Angie,” whether it’s 10 reps 10 times or 40, 30, 20, and then 10 reps, both for the physical and mental challenge of this workout. Avoid overexertion to start so you don’t burn out for the rest of the set.

One of the most desired dreams of average gym goers and CrossFit athletes is building muscle mass and at the same time losing fat. The body cannot turn fat into muscle, however, it can enhance fat burning while maintaining lean muscle mass by choosing the right diet and exercises with strength components. The first law of thermodynamics says: When energy passes, as work, as heat, or with matter, into or out from a system, the system’s internal energy changes in accord with the law of ...

When cutting with crossfit you need to pay attention to your carbs so your recovery doesn't go "to complete shit". You can adjust them up a little (10-15g/week) to help your recovery. It's actually easier to cut when you workout less, like less intensity, shorter workouts.

Nutrition for CrossFit Mass Gain The number one factor here is protein intake. Studies seem to show that above about 0.82g of protein per pound of bodyweight per day (1.82g per kilo) for resistance trained athletes is the average intake where additional protein is used for energy vs. muscle building.

To get lean, you may want to remove some carbohydrates from your diet or add a little more cardio. Learning how your body adjusts to these manipulations takes time and can be frustrating because numbers can get confusing. Don't stress over screw-ups. Change one variable at a time.

Your diet will vary depending on your CrossFit goals and level of involvement with the sport. One major difference is that a competitive CrossFit athlete simply needs to eat more calories. An athlete that uses a competitive CrossFit programming (like CrossFit Invictus or MisFit athletics, for example) will train at least 7.5 hours per week.

However, if you're in the gym to get generally fitter and healthier and have some variety, then you may want to take a leaf out of the CrossFit book. To make this work in your own training, switch up what you do every day. One day, go for a long run. On another day, work up to a heavy set of 5 deadlifts.

The only way to get a crossfit body is to change the way you eat. This is the CrossFit pyramid. The base is nutrition. More important than rowing a million meters, running a 5 minute mile or being able to move a ton of weight, the key to getting a body like Rich Froning or Mat Fraser is getting your diet under control.
