Combination Training: CrossFit and Powerlifting I work with a lot of CrossFitters and they are all looking for the same thing – they want to get stronger! They have hit a wall with their strength and they need a way to continue to progress while not giving up the conditioning they have built along the way.

Dude, you can't Powerlift and do crossfit at the same time. Powerlifting makes you fat and strong. Crossfit makes you skinny and weak. The two will just cancel each other out. trollface.jpg

Yes they can coexist. Conditioning and general physical preparedness are often overlooked by powerlifters and crossfit gyms generally have good equipment for that. The downside would be they typically don't have the machines you can find at most commercial gyms.

They know the total amount of weight they can move for what they deem the most important lifts. The powerlifting total is the total amount of weight you can lift for the squat, bench, and deadlift. And a few years ago, CrossFit introduced their own total, which is basically the same except instead of bench press they use the overhead press.

If you want to make Crossfit your priority then do Crossfit and fit in Powerlifting where you can but it will suffer. If you want to make Powerlifting the priority then either: a) Do Powerlifting first, take a brief rest and then do Crossfit after, or Powerlift mornings, Crossfit at lunch or after work. or. b) Do Powerlifting 2-3 times per week.

Four times a week you’ll train with mainly CrossFit moves, which make you faster, more explosive, and more athletic overall. You’ll also time your workouts just like they’re CrossFit WODs. When you repeat the sessions, try to beat those times; that way, you’ll be competing with yourself for better gains, just as CrossFitters do (the aspect of CrossFit people seem to love most).
